The Provincial Capitol was designed by the National Artist Architect Juan Arellano, and it was built in 1935. It has \u201ctwin capitol\u201d in Surigao del Norte which was built using the designs and plans of the Misamis Occidental Capitol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During World War 2, the Filipino Guerilla forces declared Oroquieta City and the Capitolio as the seat of the Free Philippines and commenced the printing of Mindanao emergency notes in Jimenez municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is said that a lot of dead guerillas were buried right at the grounds of the Capitol, making the Capitol a hallowed and sacred ground for fallen & forgotten Misamisnon heroes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
